Teaching kids the power of green living takes time, patience, and teaching from example. Learning to understand the effect your everyday lives have on the environment and how you can save future generations from living in a polluted world is a powerful feeling. Like Captain Planet told our generation, “we’re going to take pollution down to zero!”

How do you help your kids become a green kid? Well, for starters, finding fun green kids activities can help engage them in environmental processes while they have a good time! Finding videos online, activities to do around the house and teaching them about green health initiatives can really help the education of children.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

One of the greatest environmental programs of our era is the “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” campaign. What does this campaign try to teach? Well, it tells green kids to reduce their waste, reuse materials, and recycle when they can!

Reduce: cutting down the amount of garbage or trash that is made. The best way to reduce is to only buy items you need.

Reuse: using something again instead of throwing it out. This usually means finding a new use for something, like turning a jelly jar into a flower pot.

Recycle: takes materials from items you have already used and turns them into something brand new. For example, most aluminum cans are made from recycled aluminum.

Green Kids Activities

As we said before, keeping your children entertained while they stay green is vital. A kid doesn’t want to do something unless they’re having fun (hence why their room is always a mess!) so we’ve put together a list of some of the best green kid activities to do around your home.

1. Club Green – Start your own environmental club for green kids in the neighborhood! Plan environmental events, plant gardens, and start recycling areas around your town!
2. Garden Recipes – Learn how to make delicious recipes with items directly from your own garden! Research and cook together, and allow the kids to serve to the whole family!
3. Create your own Bugspray – Concoct your own bugspray from finding organic materials around your home
4. Grow a Garden – Design your own garden in your back yard! Have the kids decide which plants they want, if they’d prefer flowers or vegetables, and then go shopping together to find the plants!
5. Grow a Mini Garden – Do what we said above, but instead plant it all in containers!
