Approval of Nation’s first Wind Farm is a Step toward Green Living

The countries first ever wind farm was approved by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, paving the way for green living and ending the decade long dispute over the construction of the wind farm off the Nantucket coast.

Creation of the wind farm was brought to light by environmentalists who wanted to help decrease our energy reliability on oil. These green living efforts will ultimately affect the way you and your family run your lives. Health and travel could be affected by energy use which would affect how your kids grow up.  Houses that run on oil could be completely run by wind energy in the next 20 years… if the wind farm does in fact become successful. Although the United Kingdom failed with their green living idea of wind farms, the abundance of wind off the Massachusetts coast has led most people to believe our efforts will not be in vain.

Martha’s Vineyard, an island close to the one of Nantucket, has many citizens speaking up in favor of the wind farm, saying they see it has an essential step toward weaning the nation off oil and other polluting energy sources. It is hoped that this new form of energy will bring about “a new chapter of history in this region”, according to Salazar. He also spoke of the public benefits outweighing any opposition; of which there has been no shortage of.

Many local groups, Indian tribes, senators and other political figures have fought against the wind farm’s opening. The green living ideas of the supporters of the plan seem to be lost on the opposition, who say the wind farm could hinder navigation and harm the natural habitats. The view of many houses off the Nantucket coast would have the wind farm in their sights, although studies indicate that even on a completely clear day (of which there are little of in Nantucket) the wind farm would only be barely visible, being planted 6 miles off the coast.
